Russia, for us, is the two capitals — Moscow's onion-domed maximalism and St Petersburg's canal-cut classicism, two cities that argue about the country's soul from opposite ends of a railway line. High summer brings the White Nights, when St Petersburg forgets to get dark. It is a destination we plan deliberately and season-first.
