Eight states, one union territory, and a separate weather logic
The Northeast and Ladakh
We group Ladakh with the Northeast because the planning rhythm is similar — short seasons, permit work, small operators we have known for years. Assam's Kaziranga opens in November; Nagaland's Hornbill is a December proposition; Arunachal's Tawang valley needs ten days and a willingness to drive. Ladakh is June through September, Spiti slightly longer. Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura — each has a window, and we keep track of them.

Assam
Kaziranga
Two-thirds of the world's one-horned rhinos. Elephant grass taller than the jeep. Nothing else looks like it.
Trans-Himalaya
Ladakh
Monastery valleys, snow leopards in winter, slow tea at altitude.
Sikkim
Sikkim
A small Himalayan state with monasteries, rhododendron forests, and a view of Kanchenjunga that earns the trip on its own.
Trans-Himalaya
Spiti
Cold-desert villages, 1,000-year-old monasteries, no signal.
Arunachal Pradesh
Tawang
The far north-east — Tawang monastery, the Sela Pass, Bumla on the China border — for travellers willing to do a hard road for a rare place.
