The ochre facades of Gamla Stan, Stockholm's old town, Sweden.

Sweden

Sweden runs from Stockholm's archipelago composure — an old town of ochre lanes, a capital spread across islands — to a Lapland north where winter is the main event and the aurora is a reasonable expectation rather than a lottery. Midsummer, when the country moves outdoors en masse, is the happiest week to be a visitor anywhere in the north.
